We Holguineros have always been very proud of the statement that certified the City of Parks as the cleanest in Cuba.

Although for some people this situation has deteriorated considerably, the efforts of the Provincial Directorate of Community in the territory do not cease to recover this stigma.

According to Félix Abreu, director of this entity, in the territory there are external and internal factors that fundamentally damage the solid waste collection service.

In Holguin, this urban service receives approximately 384 thousand inhabitants, what they call the population served. It generates a total of more than two thousand m³ of waste.

According to Abreu, Comunales has the capacity to collect this amount without major difficulties. The problem is that this increases by more than 30 percent for the waste of companies accompanied by social indiscipline, for a total of 473.3 tons of waste that must be collected daily.

This amount is unquestionably high and damages the quality of the service. The company today has seven collector trucks, five tractors and 117 carts, in addition to three ampiroll trucks. The latter together with the 45 ampiroll boxes constitute the technology in which the greatest hopes are placed to eradicate the problem.

At this point the indiscipline of both natural and legal persons plays an important role, as they do not use the boxes in the proper way.

Another affectation in this internal case is the lack of personnel to sweep the streets, being a highly unstable work force.

Undoubtedly, eliminate existing problems lies in the efficiency of Communal and the sense of belonging of its workers, as well as in the behavior of the population.

United efforts will rescue the good image that preceded us and that we unquestionably want to rescue.
