The workers from the AzCuba sugar cane group from the northeastern Cuban province of Holguin finished 2014 with notable outcomes, so much in sugar production as in cane planting, two encouraging indicators for the ongoing season and the coming one. The sugar mills now milling exceeded their plans by achieving some 19 thousand 733 tons scheduled for the called "Little Harvest," which traditionally takes place in December.
This success brings much joy to the branch's workers because they did it for the last time a decade ago, said Pedro Silva, the AzCuba director in the province.
In Holguin there are five cane sugar companies, but at the moment only four are taking part in the "Little Harvest."
The "Little Harvest" in Holguin is headed by the Urbano Noris Company – the biggest one – which is followed by the Cristino Naranjo, also with good production capacity.
Cane sugar planting also made it fine, with 17 thousand hectares planted, the largest amount for the last 15 years, Silva said while assessing the sugar harvest and cane planting before 2014 ended. / By Alfredo Carralero Hernandez
