Cuba: National Congress of History in Holguin City
The northeastern Cuban province of Holguin hosts from April 24 to 27 the 22nd National Congress of History, with the participation of researchers from across the country.

The event, dedicated to the 90 anniversary of the leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro, includes the presentation of papers and debates aimed at contributing to the knowledge of history, mainly the new generations of Cubans.

Hiram Perez, director of the Office of Monuments and Historical Sites in Holguin, told ACN that during the meeting participants will address the teaching of the history and current challenges in school, subject of great importance in the current context of the Caribbean nation.

Other issues addressed by researchers are those concerning indigenous cultures of Latin America, the various national liberation movements that took place in the twentieth century, studies on the US-Cuba confrontation process and the historical personality of Fidel Castro.

The Union of Historians in the province has among its main achievements the creation of the publishing house La Mezquita, which has six titles published since its foundation, including "La Virgen Cubana de Nipe a Barajagua" (The Cuban Virgin of Nipe to Barajagua), National Award of Historiographic Critics Jose Luciano Franco, in 2013. / Ahora.
