Forty-five health professionals from the northeastern Cuban province of Holguin have so far reached the scientific degree of Doctor of Science, of which two have a second Ph.D.
Holguin Medical Cooperation in 40 Countries So Far
Luis Velazquez Perez and Rafael Trinchet, respectively work at the "Carlos J. Finlay" Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxia (CIRAH), and the "Octavio de la Concepcio de la Pedraja" children Hospital are the two noted professors that have gone that far.
This result shows the personal interest of workers to overcome their professional quality and the priority of the sector in raising increasingly the scientific and academic level the technical work force of the territory, which today also has nearly two thousand 200 masters in different specialties in the medical, nursing and other related fields.
Among other actions for improvement highlights the approximately 530 new specialists in first- and second-degree graduates from last year and the improvement of the composition of the teaching pyramid at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCM-H) with a total of 39 consultants, 22 associate professors and 364 assistants, figures higher than those achieved in the same period the previous school year.
The center of higher learning with a recognized role in the formation of human resources directed, also in 2015, the training of over 19 thousand workers in the sector against Ebola and other transmittable diseases, such as dengue, cholera and Chikungunya.
Likewise they developed a training and certification program for the completion of the Basic Working Groups (GBT) and prepared 54 Integral General Practitioners(MGI), from them three in Internal Medicine, 27 in Pediatrics and 24 in Obstetrics; they also certified specialists of the same denomination for collaboration in Algeria.
Among other of the preparatory activities for the UCM-H are included sponsored workshops about Gravidarum Hypertensive Disease and Prematurity and Family Planning courses and modern contraception, aimed at the basic health teams.
