Dental clinics in the northeastern Cuban province of Holguin have exceeded the current 2015 the 400 000 outpatient consultations, thus contributing to improving the care and quality of life of patients that need treatment in that field.
Xiomara Bauza, Head of Department in the Provincial Directorate of Health, pointed out that to improve services in the coming months they are currently working to increase production of dentures, given the high rate of population aging.
According to Bauza, they have provided dental services for more than 11,000 patients from the territory; most of them older people facing problems with chewing process.
Dentistry is preventive, she said, so the importance of establishing a link with schools and the community to carry out a preventive work among children, youths and the population in general, who are applied mouthwashes and receive lectures on proper teeth brushing.
She highlighted the attention provided to pregnant women and mothers with children under one year of age to prevent tooth decay in infants.
The implementation of innovative techniques for bone regeneration by extracting stem cells and the study related to various diseases or malformations are the main research lines of more than a thousand specialists in this health area in the territory.
Holguin has 50 dental seats distributed in eight specialized clinics, 34 polyclinics and hospitals with maxillofacial surgery service. Currently, about 600 young people are trained in the specialty. / by Ahora.
