Dr. Walter del Río, from the Provincial Health Department, told the ACN news agency that the new therapy aims to prepare physically and psychologically couples for the births of their child through exercises that control breathing and help dilatation of the vagina.
He noted that during the year 2015, rehabilitation services were focused on children with delayed psychomotor development and in older adults, due to the population aging that exists in this eastern region of Cuba.
Specialized consultations of Physiatrics, Natural and Traditional Medicine, Speech Therapy, Defectology, Podiatry and Nutrition Counseling distinguish the service provided in 60 units, including clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and TV rooms set up for that purpose, which are located in intricated areas of the province.
According to the specialist, the therapeutic techniques used in rehabilitation include exercises with mechanical equipments, ultrasound, diathermy, laser, hydrotherapy, magnetic field, medicinal mud and paraffin. The medical equipments are at 82 percent of total operation in the province.
The specialty, as part of medical sciences in the world, emerged mid-40s of the twentieth century when the aftermath of two world wars left thousands of people with disabilities. / ACN - Translated by Ahora.
