Cuba Receives US Presidential Committee for Arts and Humanities

The delegation of the Presidential Committee for Arts and Humanities of the United States of America started this Monday a visit to Cuba seeking to strengthen cultural links between the two nations.

The US delegation is already meeting a packed agenda in Havana, one of them was a tour around the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana, where they were welcomed by its rector and other top excutives, and students that performed for them.   

Representatives from the Cuban Ministry of Culture received the delegation at the Jose Marti International Airport.

The agenda includes visits to cultural institution like the National Councils of Performing Arts and Cultural Heritage, the Institutes of Cinematographic Art and Industry and the Institute of Music.

According to the Ministry of Culture, the delegation will also visit the Areito recording studies of EGREM, the Ernest Hemingway Museum at Finca Vigia, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso.

During the visit, the US delegation will also approach the work of cultural projects as La Colmenita, the work of Jose Rodriguez Fuster in the Havana community Jaimanitas, the dance company Lizt Alfonso and the studio of plastic artist Eduardo Roca "Choco."

The challenges of artistic collaboration and possibilities for exchange are the ideal topics to review the constraints set up by the US blockade on Cuba for more than 50 years.

Renowned personalities of US arts as musicians Smokey Robinson, Dave Matthews and Usher are part of the delegation that will visit Cuba until next Thursday. / PL.
