As part of the programs to promote reading practices in the territory, Ediciones Holguin, among the oldest publishing houses founded in Cuba, will expand in 2018 the publication of texts translated into Spanish.

Lourdes González, director of the publishing house, said that among the books stand out: Write: Ask Life, by Russian writer Evgeny Evtuschenko, the Tales of Melville, of North American Herman Melville, and the children's classic Tales of Hans Christian Andersen.

According to González, the dissemination of these books is one of the distinctive features of the publishing house in the country and contributes to expand the knowledge of Cuban readers about the work of these world classics of literature.

She said that these works are translated by prominent holguin authors, including Manuel García Verdecia, winner of the Translation Prize José Rodríguez Feo, of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, for the version of Alice Walker's novel The Temple of My Spirit, published in 2012.

The Dead, parables and silences and Cabildo and oligarchy in Holguin (1752-1853), are also among the books to be published.

Ediciones Holguín was founded in 1986 with the publishing of the prize-winning books in the first edition of the City Prize, in the genres of poetry, testimony, narrative and essay.

The cultural institution has won several awards in the area of design and publishing, including the National Criticism Award 2006 to the book Spinocerebellar AtaxiaType II, by Doctor Luis Velázquez.
