The holding in Havana of the 7th Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) showed full support to the path towards the development of a prosperous and sustainable socialism.
Cuba: Significance of 7th PCC Congress Extoled
The Party congress concluded yesterday at Havana's Conference Center - after four days of discussions among nearly 1,000 delegates - favorably welcomed the projects presented on the Conceptualization of the Economic and Social Model and the Bases of the National Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.
Taking into account the importance of those projects, the 7th Congress also approved the beginning of a broad and democratic debate on those programmatic documents with PCC members, the Young Communist League, representatives from grass-roots organizations and several sectors of the Cuban society.
During the final session of the event, PCC First Secretary, Raul Castro Ruz, said that process is expected to conclude before the year ends, so the Party's Central Committee, in correspondence with the authority the conclave granted, definitely approve them.
In his speech, the PCC top leader stated that the progress towards the updating of the model and the construction of a prosperous, sustainable and irreversible socialism in Cuba requires that the principles of justice and equality that have been a basis to the Revolution are preserved and enhanced.
The also Cuban president said the development of the national economy, along with the struggle for peace, unity and ideological firmness, are the main missions of the PCC.
He also considered advisable to recall that the updating of the economic model started during the 6th Congress, in 2011, is not a task for one or two five-year periods and said "the plan is already drawn up: we will continue at a steady pace, slowly but steadily" and added that nobody will be helpless in Cuba.
In the context of the Congress, the first and second secretary of the PCC Central Committee, Raul Castro and Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, respectively, were reelected. The new Central Committee elected, and the members of the Politburo were announced.
On the other hand, during the final session of Congress, the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, also spoke. He warned of the dangers humanity faces, especially from the destructive power of modern weaponry that could undermine peace in the world. / PL.
