Cuba's National Hydrualic Resources Institute (INRH) made investments in 2015 to habilitate nets, reservoirs, pumping stations and others, which will benefit more than half a million people.

Rose Maire Ricardo, director of investments in the INRH, said in a press release that a good part of the financial support is dedicated to the attention to droughts in Cuba.

He said that the amount of construction and assembly works, the most important component of the investment program, is covering 265 million pesos (one peso to one US dollar at the official rate) and its implementation is at 95 percent. The total plan amounts to 347 million pesos.

The specialist also explained that he has a substantial financial support from Kuwait, the Fund of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and Saudi Arabia in the projects carried out.

He said the investment program of 2016 will be higher than in 2015 and will be aimed at the completion of projects under construction planned for completion in the year.

At the moment the INRH develops actions in 12 cities especially conductive oxidation ponds and other works aimed at improving water Abasta and other key objectives.

It was reported that rainfall in November and December so far improved the hydrological behavior of the country, although the drought persists. / PL.
