The President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis, gives a master lecture today at the Main Lecture Hall of the San Geronimo College at the University of Havana on the history of the ties between Cuba and his country.
President of Cape Verde Kicks off Official Visit to Cuba
Solis is on an official visit in the island since Sunday, during which he will hold talks with his peer, Raul Castro, and will pay tribute to national independence hero, Antonio Maceo at El Cacahual mausoleum, where the remains of this renowned patriot lies.
Upon his arrival to the capital's Jose Marti International Airport, the Costa Rican president expressed the intention to complete the process of normalization of diplomatic relations with Cuba, restored in 2009, and promote trade between both nations.
He also called for boosting bilateral cooperation, and continues the process of strengthening exports between the two countries, as part of efforts to deepen a relationship he described as historical, very productive, and fraternal.
The visitor and his accompanying delegation toured the historical district of Old Havana, where they were informed by the capital's Historian, Eusebio Leal, on the city with 496 years, which was selected in December 2014 as one of the seven wonders of world cities, within the New7Wonders initiative. / PL.
Costa Rican President visits Cuba
Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solis arrived in Havana on a two-day official visit aimed at deepening relations with Cuba, which were reestablished in 2009 and to promote bilateral trade.
President Solis arrived at Havana's Jose Marti International Airport flying a small Cuban flag in a gesture of respect and affection for the Cuban people as he recognized that the island is one of the main actors in the Caribbean basin, a region targeted by Costa Rica´s foreign policy.
The Costa Rican president called for the promotion of bilateral cooperation and trade exchange, and to continue reinforcing trade between the two countries as part of what he called a historic, very productive and fraternal relationship.
During his stay in Havana, President Solis will hold official talks with Raul Castro and will attend a ceremony organized by Costa Rica´s Foreign Trade Promotion Agency PROCOMER, and by Cuba's Center for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Investment.
Solis will also give a key-note lecture at Havana's San Geronimo University on the history of relation between Cuba and Costa Rica.
After his arrival here, President Guillermo Solis toured the old section of Havana, where the city's historial, Eusebio Leal, explained them about the history of Havana.
The visit by President Solis to the island takes place as thousands of Cubans remain stranded in his country in their effort t reach US soil traveling through Central America, encouraged by the US policy dry-feet, wet-feet and the Cuban Adjustment Act. / ACN.
