Cuba Grants Canadian Nazir Rizvi Friendship Medal
Nazir Rizvi is a Canadian activist who heads the Canada-Cuba Solidarity Association in Vancouver, British Columbia, who for his support was granted the Cuban Friendship Medal.

The medal, granted by the Cuban Council of State, was pinned on Rizvi by Friendship Institute president Kenia Serrano during a ceremony at the Havana-based institution.

The Vancouver organization was founded in 1961 and since 1970 it has deployed an active and supportive role for the Cuban Revolution.

After receiving the distinction, Rizvi stressed Cuba's efforts to consolidate its own development model despite the hostility of several US administrations. This is not a revolution of a specific place alone, but an example of a project for emancipation for the whole world, and in this effort we all give our contribution.

Rizvi, who is member of Canada's Communist Party Central Committee, recalled the visit by Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro during a technical stop-over in Vancouver back in 1995, and he said that event plus a picture of that meeting was the first prize he received from the island. / By CNA.
