I want to speak on behalf of all Cubans who feel proud of their nation, with the awareness that we are not inaugurating a new Legislature. When I fulfill this responsibility with honor and emotion, I dedicate the first thought to the historical generation that with its consecration and humility accompanies us in this hour of challenges, said Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez minutes after being proclaimed President of the Councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba.

The presence of Raúl, Machado, Ramiro and other heroes is not due to the tribute more than deserved for the work done, but for example that the Army General was the most voted of the elections. They ennoble this room and give us the opportunity to embrace them in the living work.

"The mandate given by the people to this legislature is the continuity of the Revolution," he said.

"With the constitution of the Ninth Legislature of the ANPP, the electoral process that has led the Cuban people has culminated," said Diaz-Canel during his first speech as the new Cuban President.

"It is an election that emerges from the people, who in turn will control their management," he added. On the representativeness of the highest Cuban organ, he said: "If someone wanted to see Cuba in a group of citizens, it would be enough for them to study the representation of the Assembly."

The Cuban leader spoke of "promoting honest debate" and mentioned that all deputies "have our first reason for being in communication with the people."

"The mandate given by the people to this legislature is the continuity of the Revolution," he reaffirmed.

"All Cubans will be faithful to Fidel and Raúl."

"I assume the responsibility for which I have been elected, with the conviction that all Cubans will be faithful to the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, and the example of Army General Raul Castro Ruz. , current leader of the revolutionary process, "said Diaz-Canel before being interrupted by the applause of the deputies present at this plenary session of the Cuban Parliament.

I assume the responsibility for which I have been elected, "said the new President," with the conviction that Cubans, wherever we occupy any responsibility for which we were elected, will be faithful to Fidel and Raúl. I name them and I see in them the countenance of Martí or de Céspedes. Fidel and Raúl showed us the meaning of the word brother. They taught us a brotherhood, which made us partners.

Díaz-Canel ratified that the unity of the Cubans is the most valuable force of the Revolution, which has become extraordinary within its single Party. "For us it is totally clear that only the PCC guarantees the unity of the nation and its people," he said.

"Raúl maintains his own merits at the forefront of the political vanguard," said Miguel Diaz-Canel. "Raúl, as our people affectionately call him, is the best disciple of Fidel. He assumed the leadership of the Revolution in the face of a difficult economic situation and knew how to overcome personal pain, duty. "

"With patience and intelligence, taking firm decisions achieved the freedom of our Five Heroes, fulfilling Fidel's promise that they would return."
