The National Candidacy Commission proposes Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez as candidate for President of the Council of State and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba to the recently constituted National Assembly of People's Power in its Ninth Legislature, in an emotional and transcendent day which is attended by Army General Raul Castro Ruz.
Diaz-Canel so far served as the first vice president of the Council of Ministers, after having held important partisan responsibilities in two Cuban provinces and as Minister of Higher Education.

The highest organ of power of the Cuban state, which is presided over by Esteban Lazo Hernández, will elect by secret and direct vote five vice-presidents, the secretary and 23 members of the Council of State.
