The III Porcine National Fair, which hosted more than 50 producers, students and researchers of the country at the Rancho Boyeros fairground in Havana, was described as excellent by Gustavo Rodríguez, Minister of Agriculture of Cuba (Minag)
In a tour this Sunday by the different pavilions of the sample, he pointed out that the meeting had as peculiarity to gather for the first time farmers of the cooperative-peasant movement, sector that produces 92 percent of the pork in Cuba.
Rodriguez noted that the event enables everyone to share experiences, knowledge and technologies on this important branch, which will close this year with a figure of 197 thousand tons of meat.
He appreciated, through the debate with the delegates, what are the advances in pig farming and the strategies to implement in order to achieve higher yields in this area, which has grown in a stable and secure way in recent years, and this makes it possible to replace imports in that line.
The producers also expressed their satisfaction to the Minister for receiving lectures and workshops related to enteric diseases of the pig, waste treatments, biodigesters and the use of renewable energy, biosecurity and classical swine fever, and the use of sugar cane honeys and the dietary compound Nuprovim.
Norberto Espinosa, president of Grupo Empresarial Ganadero, informed that by 2018 such experience will be extended by specialties, since he mentioned that in February there will be a fair of genetics and animal reproduction, sponsored by the National Artificial Insemination Company and the Research Center for the Animal Improvement of Tropical Livestock.
