The United States government ´s unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and to relocate its diplomatic headquarters in the Holy Land was strongly refused by the Cuban Association of the United Nations (UNHCR).
UNHCR called the decision of Washington an interventionist act, adding that it constitutes a serious violation of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and of resolution 478 of the UN Security Council, which condemns the unilateral declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The text states that it is a new provocation that endangers peace and international security and in the Middle East, as the previous agreements and the ongoing talks for a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are ignored.
That action by the governments of the United States and Israel hampers all kinds of negotiations that could lead to peace in that region, and the creation of a sovereign Palestinian State, with defined and internationally recognized borders before 1967, it emphasizes.
The ACNU also supported the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 6, and reiterated its support for the call of the Non-Aligned Movement in the declaration of its XVII Summit, on Margarita Island.
US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation on Tuesday to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a measure that has unleashed internal opposition and the world community for its unpredictable consequences. With information of ACN
