Venezuela-Holguin charter flight, first step of tourist connection

The general manager of the Panama-based travel agency Belraysa Tours & Travel Group S.A., Jorge Guerra, assessed as positive the four-day experience in Cuban territory with a FAM Group coming from a charter flight from Venezuela to Holguín.

In this Familiarization Group (FAM Group), some 60 tour operators and 19 press media from the South American nation traveled to eastern Cuba to inaugurate the charter flight that every Tuesday and Friday will link the international airports of Maiquetia and Falcon with the city of Holguin.

Guerra, whose agency specializes in the Cuba destination, agreed to talk to Prensa Latina at the end of the intense working days that included the Guardalavaca tourist center and a tour of the heroic city of Santiago de Cuba, with its historical and tourist attractions.

“This is only the beginning of the beginning”, said the businessman because we have only finished the initial stage, now comes the concrete one, the truth, which “is to get passengers on that plane” so that Venezuelan tourists come to Cuba.

But I can assure you that “it has been a wonderful experience on a professional level”, to see them so happy and satisfied, “that makes you sky-high, because you say: we have done something right that people are like this”.

The manager of Belraysa Tours said that what has been achieved would not have been possible without the help of Havanatur agency and the authorities of the eastern region of the country, “I wish all the agencies worked as they did,” he said.

They have been incredible, they put the people in motion, and obviously, “it is well done because it is what the country needs, tourism”, he emphasized.

I am one of those who believe, he said, that much of the economic solution of our country is in tourism, because “it is the industry that is able to put quick money in the hands of ordinary Cubans”, and that is why I am still in this industry.

Guerra was surprised that Cuba could have so much demand in Venezuela and in his opinion “it is a pity that more work has not been done and before, from the opinions of themselves we are doing something different, I do not know how someone before did not see it that way”.

He commented that it also happens because of the processes that Venezuela has gone through, where today there is tranquility and Venezuelans think about tourism, and there were stages that unfortunately could not be done, because “it depends a lot on the circumstances of each country”.

The expectation is very great, and what we expect is also great, “we believe that yes, we can achieve it, hopefully we are not wrong”, but we will continue working because we are committed, the specialist predicted.

As we say in Cuba “we are already on top of the donkey and we have to give him the sticks”, and we cannot look bad”.

This support, he stressed, that they gave us, I can’t tomorrow…it would be very embarrassing and difficult for me to say: “I didn’t make it”, which can happen because it is within the variables, and it is very strong.

For the general manager of Belraysa Tours, a charter operation is very complicated and very expensive, and “here the numbers rule, not the will or the desire”.

And just when this experience was about to come to an end, Guerra is already thinking about a new FAM Group, including himself, to attend the International Tourism Fair of Cuba (Fitcuba), to be held from May 2 to 5 in the Jardines del Rey tourist center, Central East of Cuba.

We are going to come to Fitcuba to negotiate prices, conditions, rates, agreements, arrangements, new products and try to “get the best out of it from the commercial and negotiation point of view”, he predicted.

We want, he said, to bring a group of press from Venezuela “to be able to concentrate on this market and perhaps others nearby”.

But look, hopefully we will reach May and this flight we are starting will be stable, full of passengers and with a good occupancy that will lead us to say: “we are going to take the next step, we want to do it, this is just the first one”, he said.
